Story & Restoration Notes
Big John got his name in the shop while listening to Jimmy Dean’s “Big Bad John,” and it stuck the second we laid eyes on him. Named for my dad and grandpa—both Johns—this K10 is big, bold, and built like a rock.
We picked him up at Mecum Dallas in 2024 while scouting for a daily driver. I wasn’t about to shell out $80k for a new truck when I could cruise in something with character. Big John came with a fresh LS2 and 4L80e setup, lifted suspension, and just enough issues to make him ours.
Since then, we’ve been dialing in the A/C, chasing a few electrical gremlins, and solving some fuel tank transfer problems. That’s part of the fun—bringing old tech and modern muscle together with your own hands. And Big John handles daily duty like a champ, earning stares, waves, and even a first-place trophy at a recent show.
